Greetings from the 25th Executive Council!
IAB is the national professional institution of the Architects. You may know that just after the independence of Bangladesh, a handful of dedicated Architects established IAB and over the last 50 years it has grown into an institution of about 5300 Members. In addition to traditional role of designers of building projects, Architects in the country now have firm footings in different allied fields, particularly interior design, urban design, landscape design, heritage conservation, project management,community architecture, even furniture, graphic as well as product designs.
A large number of IAB Members are winning national and international awards for their designs. In the recent times, IAB is playing a supporting role by organizing design competitions, where in most cases relatively younger Members are winning in the competitions.
At the same time, with the growing number of architectural graduates coming into the job market from about 26 public and private universities (the number is ever increasing), the job market in the metropolitan cities may soon become saturated, but on the other hand, new prospects of works and jobs are being created in the smaller cities and towns, even in the villages through IAB’s efforts to generate awarenessamong the local government institutions and through engagementwith the Ministry of LGRD & Cooperatives to enforcebuilding rules at the local government level.
I will be looking forward to your cooperation and active participation in the different initiatives of IAB to enhancethe professional standardsof the Architects and for the collective welfare of our community.
