News: IAB recently passed a resolution to establish an 'Architects Act Committee'

The Institute of Architects Bangladesh (IAB) recently passed a resolution during the EC meeting to establish an 'Architects Act Committee,' led by EC Member Ar Ziaul Sharif. The primary objective of this Act is to safeguard public interests and ensure the protection of the architectural profession in Bangladesh. Although the IAB had previously made significant efforts to legislate the act in the National Parliament, it was not ultimately enacted.
In light of this, a meeting took place on 11/11/23 between Bangladeshi Architects in North America, all holding professional licenses across various jurisdictions and the IAB's EC Members. The focus was on re-examining the legislation of the 'Architects Act' for Bangladesh and charting a viable path forward. The Zoom meeting was chaired by the IAB President and coordinated by Ar Zulqar Helal from the USA. Ar Helal delivered a comprehensive presentation on the regulatory landscapes of Bangladesh, Canada, and the USA. Discussions revolved around potential models for legislation in Bangladesh and the roadmap ahead.
From the Bangladesh side, key attendees included the President of IAB, Vice Presidents for National and International Affairs, General Secretary, Secretary for Heritage and Culture, and Secretary for the Profession. From the North American contingent, attendees included Ar Zulqar Helal AIA, Ar Waziuddin Choudhury AIA, Ar Pulak Das RAIC, Ar Malik Zaidi AIA, Ar Kafil Jamil AIA, Ar Kaushik Roy AIA, Ar Moshfeq Rahman AIA, Ar Mahbuba Khan AIA, Ar Maksudul Haq AIA, and Ar Tasnim Haque RAIC.
